When You Get Your Nails Filled – Can You Change The Color?

Women tend to get fed up with their nail polish color in 7 days! Not too sure if you can switch it up after getting a manicure? Here’s how to do it!

One of the most common questions that clients ask at a nail salon is what to do with their nails after they are fed up with the same color. Unfortunately, this happens to every woman, and almost 70% of polish wearers admit that wearing the same color for 7-10 days bothers them. Are you one of them? If so, here’s how to deal with your nails after you just got them filled!

How Often Should You Get Your Nails Done?

This is different and every individual will approach it in its own way. However & most often, women tend to get their nails done every 3-4 weeks. Some of them get nail polish, others stick to gel manicures, and those who want that something ‘extra’ will go with acrylics.

Getting manicure done

Once you get your nails done you will be left with the same set for the upcoming 3-4 week period. Or will you?

Whenever coming back to the salon, you can switch up your color. You can ask your nail tech to remove the previous layer and to give you a new shiny coat. They will remove the previous filling with their nail file, as well as with some acetone.

Can You Remove The Color At Home?

If you get sick & tired of the same color, you can color on top of it. This step may be a bit hard to master at first, but with the right set of tools, you will achieve the ultimate new manicure!

What Do You Need?

  • Aluminum foil
  • Acetone
  • Cotton pads
  • A nail file
  • Nail buffer
  • Nail polish
  • Gel polish (an extra step if you own gel polishes, as well as a UV lamp)

Remove the previous color by applying acetone to the cotton pad. However, wrap the cotton around your finger using aluminum foil, and scrunch the pieces together. This will help with the removal of your current color.

Leave the aluminum on for 10 minutes, and make sure all 10 of your fingernails are coated. Once the polish is off, shape the nails with your nail file and buff out the middle portion with the nail buffer.

Wash your hands and nourish them with creams & lotions. Prepare your fingernails for a new set of color, and add a base coat before you get started. Add 2 coats of your chosen polish color, and set it with a top coat!

PS: If you own a gel polish as well as a UV lamp, you can do the manicure in a way easier & more professional way. How? Simply coat on top of your filled nails! Use two coats of your gel polish and cure them in the UV lamp. This way, you will change the color of your manicure in less than 10 minutes, while saving both time & money!
