I have to admit, i might use makeup and other beauty-products more often than i optimally should, but there is good news, we can help our body recover and flourish with these great ingredients, complimented by great skin care devices.
GRAMFLOUR- Take a tablespoon of gram flour, add enough water/ rose water to make a paste. Apply and rub this paste on face in circular motions for 5 minutes then wash it off with lukewarm water.
CLAY - Clay removes impurities and nourish skin with their minerals and anti-inflammatory qualities. You can take bentonite clay or fullers earth/multani mitti. Just add enough water to make a consistent paste and leave on face for till it dries. Wash it off and apply your regular moisturizer.
OATMEAL - Oatmeal scrub absorbs excess oil and impurities from skin leaving it soft, supple and glowing. Mix oatmeal with rose water to make a thick paste. Smear the mixture all over your face.
Massage for 5-10 minutes then wash it off with normal water.
ALOE VERA- Use pure all natural aloe Vera juice or scoop out fresh gel out of an aloe vera leaf. You can leave the juice on face from few minutes to few hours.
LEMON JUICE - Vitamin C, citric acid and antibacterial properties makes lemon an amazing cleanser for oily and acne prone skin. You can either rub a lemon peel all over your face for few minutes or dab cotton ball in lemon juice and then apply on skin.
If only lemon is harsh on your skin add few drops of rose water to it. For DRY SKIN add few drops of glycerin to equal parts of rose water and lemon juice, you can store this mixture and use every day.
NOTE - Lemon makes skin susceptible to sunburn so always wear a sunblock of SPF 30 or above while stepping out of the house.
MILK- The protein, lactic acid and calcium in milk cleanse and replenish both oily and dry skin. Dab a cotton ball in lukewarm milk and apply on face. Leave for 5 minutes. For OILY SKIN add few drops of lemon juice to milk.
YOGURT - Just like milk yogurt contains lactic acid and protein. For oily skin massage your face with plain yogurt for 5-10 minutes then wash it off. For DRY SKIN add few drops of manuka honey to a tablespoon of yogurt for cleansing.
HONEY - Honey is a humectant, it restores moisture and keeps skin hydrated. The enzymes, anti-microbial, non-inflammatory properties and antioxidants in honey not only remove impurities and unclog pores but also nourish and moisturize skin keeping it soft, supple and youthful.
Just take a teaspoon of honey add few drops of water/ rose water to it, rub on face in circular motions for few minutes.
Then wash it off with lukewarm water. For skin firming and removing excess oil, mix an egg white with few drops of honey, let the mask stay for 30 minutes.
For dry skin use egg yolk instead of egg white with honey.
FRUIT CLEANSERS - Fruits contain minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium, Vitamins A, C, K and D and enzymes that remove dead cells, cut out bacteria, repair and moisturize skin in the most natural way.
FOR DRY SKIN – use banana, avocado and apple pulp. Leave the pulp for 10-30 minutes then wash it off with normal water.
FOR OILY SKIN – use orange juice, papaya peel and pineapple juice.( the enzymes in papaya and pineapple eat away dead skin cells, which helps in faster regeneration of new skin cells-result is younger looking glowing skin.)
FOR ANTI-AGEING – use watermelon juice and pomegranate juice for cleansing.
FOR REMOVING BLEMISHES/ ACNE PRONE SKIN – Rub the insides of a banana peel on skin for 5-10 minutes.
OIL CLEANSERS - for DRY skin massage your face with few drops of coconut oil every night. You can leave it overnight or remove oil with a warm towel after massaging.
For COMBINATION TO OILY skin use olive oil as it is lighter and doesn’t clog pores.
For MAKEUP REMOVAL rub few drops of olive oil on face for 5-10 minutes then use a damp cotton ball to wipe off makeup thoroughly.
TOMATO AND CUCUMBER- For tan removal rub the insides of a tomato peel. Tomatoes have natural skin bleaching properties along with Lycopene (anti-ageing ingredient) and vitamin C. For OILY skin add few drops of lemon juice to tomato pulp for cleansing.
Cucumbers have a coolant effect and is often used for soothing redness, sunburn and puffy eyes. Just apply fresh cucumber juice on face for 30 minutes for refreshing and soothing skin.
MINT/NEEM JUICE- for Acne prone skin mint and neem are excellent ingredients. They possess medicinal, healing and anti-inflammatory effects. You can simply add mint or neem leaves to boiling water for 5 minutes.
Let the leaves stay in water for few hours then strain water and use it for washing face or bathing (for body acne). Another method is to simply grind fresh mint/ Neem leaves. Leave them on face for 30 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water.
